Pitcher Kevin Herget has elected free agency from the New York Mets. While Major League Baseball free agency opens after the World Series, eligible minor leaguers are permitted to hit the open market immediately. Herget, 35, made only one big-league appearance for the Mets this season but made 19 appearances across several minor-league affiliates.

Herget posted a 2.97 ERA across 33 1/3 minor-league innings this year, making eight starts and striking out 25 batters. Baseball Now notes that while Herget holds a 4.13 career major-league ERA, losing him represents minor depth rather than a significant blow to the Mets.
