A former Mets coach is under consideration for a return to oversee the team’s hitting department.

The New York Mets are scheduled to speak with former hitting coach Kevin Long about a coaching position to oversee their hitting department. Long, who previously served as the Mets hitting coach during their 2015 World Series run, became available after being fired by the Philadelphia Phillies following a five-season tenure.
The Mets have an opening after dismissing director of major league hitting Jeff Albert, though hitting coach Troy Snitker and assistant Rafael Fernandez were retained. Long, who previously won World Series titles with the Yankees and Nationals, is not believed to have spoken with other teams.
