The Mets are searching for another hitting coach, but may have trouble hiring who they desire.

The New York Mets are searching for a new hitting coach after firing director of hitting Jeff Albert, but they reportedly face difficulties convincing top candidates to join. Former Philadelphia Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long and Chicago Cubs assistant hitting coach John Mallee are considered candidates, with Long viewed by a league source as having the inside track.
According to a league source, the Mets may encounter roadblocks because industry perception suggests joining the club could set back a coach's career. The club's instability, following back-to-back postseason absences despite a high payroll, makes the destination less attractive to prospective hires.
