The New York Mets are projected to pass on reuniting with Clay Holmes, but the most comparable alternative is a pitcher they should stay far away from.

MLB insider Jim Bowden projects the New York Mets will pass on re-signing free-agent pitcher Clay Holmes, predicting he will join either the Chicago White Sox or San Francisco Giants. Bowden instead projects the Mets could target veteran left-hander Robbie Ray on a two-year, $45 million contract.
Rising Apple writer Stephen Parello argues that pursuing Ray would be a mistake due to declining strikeout metrics, high walk rates, and concerning underlying numbers. Parello suggests re-signing Holmes remains the best move, while naming Casey Mize as a better alternative if the Mets look elsewhere.
