Writer Jay Staph argues that New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge should win the 2026 National League Rookie of the Year award over fellow contenders Sal Stewart, Nolan McLean, and JJ Wetherholt. Benge recovered from a difficult March and April to hit 20 home runs and steal 22 bases, becoming the first rookie in Mets franchise history to record a 20/20 season.
Staph highlights that Benge accrued 4.3 fWAR and an elite +8 fielding run value, outperforming Stewart's overall value despite Stewart hitting over 30 home runs. While McLean excelled on the mound and Wetherholt provided elite second-base defense, Staph maintains that Benge's everyday offensive production and second-half surge make him the most deserving candidate.
