The New York Yankees face a series of difficult choices this offseason after an early playoff exit, and one of the more pressing ones centers on former American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil.
The New York Yankees are expected to aggressively pursue a trade for right-handed pitcher Luis Gil before the November 20 contract tender deadline. According to New York Post insider Joel Sherman, the organization is motivated to move Gil rather than retain him at his projected $2.3 million arbitration salary, especially with no clear path available for him in the starting rotation.
Gil, who won American League Rookie of the Year in 2024, struggled through injuries and posted a 4.61 ERA in 2026 while exhausting his minor-league options. With established starters such as Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Max Fried, and Cam Schlittler ahead of him, the Yankees may non-tender Gil into free agency if a trade cannot be completed.
