The New York Yankees face another offseason of uncertainty after yet another early postseason departure, forcing general manager Brian Cashman to weigh creative roster adjustments rather than relying on a thin free-agent market.
The New York Yankees are expected to explore trading a starting pitcher this offseason, according to Matthew Schmidt of Yankees Roundtable. Following an early postseason exit, general manager Brian Cashman faces rotation surplus with starters Cam Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Will Warren, and Ryan Weathers, making a trade involving either Warren or Weathers appear inevitable to address other roster needs.
Warren posted a 3.92 ERA across 29 starts in 2026, while Weathers recorded a 3.60 ERA in 25 starts before suffering an elbow strain. The Yankees could alternatively utilize Weathers in the bullpen if pending free agents depart, but trading from their starting depth offers an opportunity to upgrade the roster without sacrificing rotation security.
