Veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt told reporters that he intends to continue his playing career into the 2027 season following the New York Yankees' Division Series exit against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 39-year-old just completed his 16th major league season and is expected to explore another one-year contract in free agency this winter.
Playing on a one-year, $4 million deal with New York, Goldschmidt posted a 111 wRC+ across 380 plate appearances while serving primarily as a platoon hitter against left-handed pitchers. Writer Charlie Wright notes that a return to the Yankees appears unlikely given New York's roster construction, which includes Ben Rice, Luis Garcia Jr., and Giancarlo Stanton.
