The New York Yankees were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays in this year's postseason, and their long wait for another World Series championship goes on.

The New York Yankees have decided not to renew the contracts of Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean, who served as special assistants to general manager Brian Cashman. The front office move came following the team's postseason elimination by the Tampa Bay Rays, prompting negative reactions from supporters online who viewed the departures as an effort to protect Cashman.
Despite fan frustration targeting Cashman, Yankees chairman Hal Steinbrenner expressed strong confidence in the longtime executive during an October 21 press conference. Steinbrenner defended Cashman's management and praised the roster as a championship-caliber team. Cashman is slated to remain in his position for his 30th season in 2027.
