New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge said the club needs Anthony Volpe to contend for a World Series after the team’s latest early postseason exit extended a championship drought to 17 years.
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge stated that the team needs Anthony Volpe if they are to win a World Series. His comments followed the Yankees' early postseason elimination, which extended their championship drought to 17 years after a 3-0 American League Division Series loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Judge missed the postseason due to injuries.
Volpe split time between the majors and minors this season, later transitioning to second base where he hit .245 in 70 games. With top prospect George Lombard Jr. stepping in at shortstop and impending free agent Jazz Chisholm Jr. likely departing, an opening has emerged for Volpe as the Yankees address key offseason roster decisions.
