Luis Garcia Jr. has second-base experience, but the Yankees should test his defense before treating a position switch as a fix.

Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that moving Luis Garcia Jr. back to second base is an option for the New York Yankees ahead of the 2027 season. Alexander Wilson argues that while Garcia provides offensive value after hitting 30 home runs in 2026, the Yankees must thoroughly evaluate his defense before committing to the position change.
Garcia started 480 games at second base from 2020 through 2025 before playing first base and designated hitter in 2026. Wilson suggests the club evaluate his lateral movement and throwing rather than assuming his bat alone qualifies him for the role.
