Tanner Swanson is leaving the New York Yankees to join the Seattle Mariners as bench coach under newly appointed manager Jason Kanzler. Swanson spent seven seasons with the Yankees organization, serving as director of catching, quality control coordinator, and major league field coordinator. His contract with New York expired at the end of the season, prompting a return to his home state of Washington.
During his tenure with New York since 2020, Yankees catchers led Major League Baseball with 86 framing runs. His coaching contributed to major defensive strides for catchers like Austin Wells and Jose Trevino. Swanson now joins a Mariners team that ranked second-worst in MLB in pitch framing.
