At various points this series, Giancarlo Stanton stood in the Yankees dugout with a bat in hand, ready to take his shot. It just never came.

Giancarlo Stanton went unused as a pinch hitter during the New York Yankees' two-game AL wild-card series sweep over the Boston Red Sox. Despite being included on the roster to counter left-handed pitching after missing five months with calf strains, Stanton never made a plate appearance as New York secured a 9-2 victory in Game 2.
Manager Aaron Boone opted to stick with left-handed batters during key rallies against Boston's relievers. The Yankees will now consider whether Stanton remains on the roster for the upcoming ALDS matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays.
