The Padres have decided not to pick up right-hander Nick Pivetta’s team option, as first reported by Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. More to come…

The San Diego Padres have declined right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta's $14 million club option for the 2027 season, sending him to free agency. Pivetta originally signed a four-year, $55 million deal ahead of 2025, but spending more than 130 days on the injured list in 2026 converted the arrangement into a club option.
Pivetta was limited to eight regular-season starts in 2026 due to a flexor strain suffered in April, though he posted an effective 2.86 ERA across 34 2/3 innings. The Padres could still pursue a reworked agreement with the veteran, who also held an $18 million player option for 2028.
