With their season on the brink of ending, the Padres refused to go down quietly.

The San Diego Padres avoided elimination by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 3 of the NLDS on Tuesday night. Facing a 2-0 series deficit against the top-seeded Brewers, San Diego held on behind a crucial relief performance to cut Milwaukee's series lead to 2-1 and force a Game 4.
With regular closer Mason Miller placed on the paternity list, Michael King pitched two innings of relief on two days' rest to secure the victory. Earlier, Jake Cronenworth hit a go-ahead solo home run in the fifth inning after Milwaukee tied the game on Jackson Chourio's sacrifice fly.
