Don Mattingly acknowledged that the 2026 Philadelphia Phillies were not truly his team after the club retained him as full-time manager on a two-year contract through 2028.
Don Mattingly stated that the 2026 Philadelphia Phillies were not truly his team after being retained as the full-time manager on a two-year contract through 2028. Mattingly originally took over as interim manager on April 28 following the dismissal of Rob Thomson, steering the Phillies to a 79-55 finish and an NL Wild Card berth.
Looking forward, Mattingly plans to emphasize defense, baserunning, and a more versatile offensive approach. The Phillies are reshaping their coaching staff, having hired Carlos Mendoza while parting ways with hitting coach Kevin Long and infield coach Bobby Dickerson.
