This is the latest step in a remarkable comeback for Woodruff, a two-time All-Star who had expected to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery this past summer.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been named to the team's World Series roster ahead of Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 33-year-old right-hander replaced Chad Patrick on the 13-man pitching staff despite not pitching in a game for three and a half months due to shoulder issues. Woodruff avoided expected season-ending surgery and proved his readiness during a live batting practice session on Tuesday.
The decision carries risk, as MLB rules prohibit replacing a player for recurring injuries during a series. Woodruff went 2-2 with a 2.98 ERA across nine starts during the regular season, last pitching on July 4 against Arizona. Meanwhile, the Rays made their own pitching change by adding left-hander Garrett Cleavinger to the roster in place of right-hander Brody Hopkins.
