Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin reflected on his eventful rookie season, expressing optimism for 2027 after helping the team secure its first winning record in eight years. Griffin debuted at age 19 and signed a franchise-record nine-year extension shortly after. Despite missing substantial time due to elbow and finger injuries, he capped his campaign with a leadoff home run in Sunday's 4-2 season finale victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Over 80 games, Griffin batted .272 with six home runs, 33 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases, significantly improving his workload management and production after turning 20 in April. Looking forward, Griffin stressed the importance of starting stronger next season to avoid falling behind in the playoff race, while also expressing hope that free agent Brandon Lowe returns to Pittsburgh.
