This is one in a series of stories breaking down PBN’s Top 30 Pirates prospects. There’s a lot to like…

Pittsburgh Baseball Now ranked Darell Morel at No. 27 in its Pittsburgh Pirates top prospects breakdown, noting the infielder retains high upside despite a challenging season. The 19-year-old was signed out of the Dominican Republic for $1.8 million in 2025. After an impressive debut in the Dominican Summer League, Morel struggled with the Florida Complex League affiliate, batting .180 across 40 appearances.
Danny Demilio highlights that Morel's strikeout rate rose to 29.2%, though he maintained a 16.1% walk rate and increased his isolated power. Standing 6-foot-4, Morel offers defensive versatility between shortstop and third base. Demilio views Morel as a prime candidate for a bounce-back campaign heading into next season with Low-A Bradenton.
