Padres lose a familiar voice to Andy Green’s long-awaited Mets reunion

A.J. Ellis is departing the San Diego Padres' baseball operations department to become the major-league strategy coordinator for the New York Mets. Ellis will join the coaching staff of Mets manager Andy Green, who is his close friend. Green, who secured a three-year contract in September, had reportedly long sought an opportunity to work alongside Ellis.

Ellis had been a member of the Padres organization since playing his final major-league season with the club in 2018, transitioning into a baseball operations role in 2019. The Padres have not announced whether they will hire an outside replacement or redistribute Ellis's previous duties among their current front office assistants and advisers.
