Aaron Bates is leaving the Dodgers despite a multiyear offer to stay, giving Padres fans a welcome look at a rival’s disrupted coaching continuity.

Hitting coach Aaron Bates is departing the Los Angeles Dodgers after 12 years with the organization. Although the Dodgers made him a multiyear contract offer to return, the two sides failed to reach an agreement, according to a report from MLB Trade Rumors.
Bates joined the Dodgers' major league coaching staff in 2019 before being promoted to hitting coach in 2023 alongside Robert Van Scoyoc. Writer Tremayne Person argues that while the loss disrupts Los Angeles' coaching continuity, it will not cripple their offense.
