Ty France has made his Padres free-agent preference clear. Now A.J. Preller must decide whether to complete an obvious San Diego reunion.

Ty France has expressed a strong desire to re-sign with the San Diego Padres as he enters free agency. Following the team's postseason exit, France stated that his heart is in San Diego, and he has reportedly informed president of baseball operations A.J. Preller multiple times of his wish to return.
Tremayne Person of Friars on Base argues that Preller should secure a new contract for France despite expected higher costs. France batted .295 with 21 home runs across 133 games in 2026 after joining on a minor-league deal and earning $1.35 million.
