Buster Posey does not seem to have a clear idea of Casey Schmitt's future with the SF Giants which may mean a trade is the most likely outcome.

Around the Foghorn's Nick San Miguel argues that Buster Posey's noncommittal comments regarding Casey Schmitt's future position could lead to the slugger being traded by the San Francisco Giants. During a recent end-of-season press conference, Posey noted that nothing is set in stone for Schmitt defensively, despite his strong offensive performance before a season-ending knee injury.
San Miguel suggests San Francisco could capitalize on Schmitt's trade value to acquire starting pitching, highlighting the Seattle Mariners as a logical trade partner in a potential deal for Emerson Hancock. While Schmitt hit 21 home runs in 2026, Matt Chapman's presence at third base leaves Schmitt without an obvious everyday defensive role.
