Matt Gage opened 2026 as a reliable SF Giants reliever before knee and elbow injuries derailed his season and complicated his future.

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Matt Gage saw a promising 2026 campaign derailed by knee and elbow injuries. After securing an Opening Day bullpen spot, the left-hander posted a 1.96 ERA across 28 appearances through May, securing his first career MLB win and save. However, knee inflammation in June preceded severe struggles, culminating in a left elbow strain sustained on July 3 against the Colorado Rockies that ultimately ended his season.
Nathan Hirschi notes that while Gage was cleared for a normal offseason on September 29, the Giants face an upcoming roster decision. Because Gage has no minor-league options remaining and concluded the year on the 60-day injured list, San Francisco must decide whether to tender him a major-league contract for 2027.
