Grant McCray did not hit much for the SF Giants in 2026, but luck not on his side either. By several metrics, he was the unluckiest hitters on the club among players with at least 50 plate appearances.

Around the Foghorn's Jeff Young analyzes Grant McCray's 2026 season, identifying him as the unluckiest hitter on the SF Giants based on expected statistics. Across 91 plate appearances, McCray recorded a .143 batting average compared to an expected batting average of .210, producing a .067 unfavorable gap that led the club among qualified hitters.
Young notes McCray also paced the team in unfavorable variances for slugging percentage and wOBA. Despite making contact gains at Triple-A Sacramento, McCray's overall production remained well below league average, leaving the 25-year-old outfielder potentially on the roster bubble this offseason as San Francisco manages significant roster turnover.
