The defending AL West champion Seattle Mariners were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Thursday prior to a 6-4 loss against the Los Angeles Angels. Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh and manager Dan Wilson expressed disappointment over missing the postseason, despite a 451-foot home run by Julio Rodriguez at T-Mobile Park. The Mariners dropped to a 74-85 record following the defeat.
Christian Moore drove in three runs and Josh Lowe scored three times as the last-place Angels (61-98) snapped a three-game losing skid to remain just shy of 100 losses. Los Angeles placed reliever Ben Joyce on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement, while Ryan Watson recorded the save. Left-hander Reid Detmers will start Friday for Los Angeles against Seattle's Bryce Miller.
