The Story in 60 Seconds

The Seattle Mariners have identified Jason Kanzler as a candidate for their managerial vacancy alongside Joe Espada and Rocco Baldelli. According to a report from The Athletic, Seattle's search to replace Dan Wilson is currently in an advanced stage. Kanzler, 36, currently serves as the Chicago Cubs director of player development following prior coaching stints with the Houston Astros organization.

While Espada and Baldelli possess prior major league managerial experience, hiring Kanzler would be a more unorthodox move given his youth. Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto previously noted a preference for experience while also aiming to introduce fresh ideas.
