The St. Louis Cardinals claimed 25-year-old right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton off waivers from the Washington Nationals on Monday. The acquisition adds pitching depth and fills a spot on the Cardinals' 40-man roster, bringing the total count to 39 players.
Hampton was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in 2022 and missed the 2025 season following Tommy John surgery. After posting an 0-6 record with an 8.18 ERA across three minor-league levels in 2026, he was designated for assignment by both the Yankees and Nationals in September.
