The Story in 60 Seconds

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Friday that Rob Cerfolio has been promoted to general manager. The 34-year-old executive joined the organization in 2024 as an assistant general manager and will continue working directly under president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom. The promotion follows the departure of longtime front-office executive Randy Flores, who was named general manager of the Houston Astros.

Cerfolio spent nearly a decade in the Cleveland Guardians organization before coming to St. Louis, where he spearheaded player development. Bloom praised Cerfolio for his work advancing the performance group and fostering internal relationships as the Cardinals experienced multiple young player breakouts throughout the 2026 season.
