Brewers assistant general manager Matt Kleine and Cardinals assistant general manager Rob Cerfolio are candidates for the Athletics' vacant general manager position, according to The Athletic. Cerfolio has already interviewed with Oakland but is reportedly expected to stay in St. Louis, where he is considered likely to be promoted to general manager under president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom.
The Athletics are searching for a permanent replacement after dismissing David Forst in August and naming Dan Feinstein interim GM. Kleine has been with Milwaukee since 2007 and was elevated to assistant GM in November 2023, while Cerfolio previously spent nearly a decade with the Guardians before joining the Cardinals in 2024.
