The Tampa Bay Rays have officially released outfielder Jake Fraley after he declined an outright assignment to the minor leagues. Fraley was designated for assignment a few days prior and cleared waivers before deciding to test the open market. By exercising his right to reject the assignment, he enters free agency immediately and can begin discussions with all 30 teams ahead of the 2027 season.
Fraley signed a $3 million deal with the Rays prior to the season, but his 2026 campaign was limited by hernia surgery. Over 97 plate appearances this season, he posted a .216/.289/.364 slash line, while outfielders Chandler Simpson and Víctor Mesa Jr. emerged to secure regular roles for Tampa Bay.
