This is an idea, not a rumor. But let it be noted that the Tampa Bay Rays have an opportunity to reunite with one of their former pitching success stories – and for a much lower price than he would…

Mark Deeks of Heavy argues that the Tampa Bay Rays should consider signing free-agent left-handed pitcher Jeffrey Springs to a low-cost deal. The Athletics recently declined their $15 million club option on the 34-year-old for the 2027 season, instead opting to pay a $750,000 buyout after a difficult 2026 campaign.
Springs previously excelled with the Rays, posting a 2.46 ERA in 2022 before undergoing Tommy John surgery and eventually being traded in December 2024. Deeks suggests Tampa Bay's coaching staff could help rehabilitate Springs on a modest, incentive-laden contract to help fill potential rotation vacancies.
