The Story in 60 Seconds

Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young announced that the team's payroll budget will not prevent them from improving the roster. Speaking via Zoom, Young stated that the 2027 payroll will be similar to the approximately $193 million spent in 2026, leaving an estimated $20 million available this offseason after arbitration increases. He emphasized that financial boundaries will allow the front office to pursue creative roster construction.

Young addressed potential trades involving top-earning veterans Corey Seager, Jacob deGrom, and Nathan Eovaldi, noting that the team is not forced to trade anyone. Along with manager Skip Schumaker, the front office plans to prioritize fielding a younger, more athletic squad, targeting defensive improvements, baserunning upgrades, catching depth, and rebuilding the bullpen.
