Former Toronto Blue Jays star Bo Bichette has exercised his $42 million player option to remain with the New York Mets for the 2027 season. The decision keeps the infielder in New York rather than pursuing free agency with a $5 million buyout, according to an initial report by Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Bichette's choice follows his first year of a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets. During the 2026 campaign, he hit .260 with 18 home runs and a .702 OPS while transitioning defensively from shortstop to third base. His deal includes another $42 million player option for 2028.
