Although his bat struggled, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was elite defensively at first base and looked like he was poised to win another Gold Glove.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. missed out on winning the American League Gold Glove Award, which was instead awarded to Christian Walker of the Houston Astros. Writer Cole Shelton argues that Guerrero was snubbed despite leading the American League in both defensive runs saved with 10 and outs above average with six.
The defensive snub followed a difficult offensive season for Guerrero, who hit .260 with nine home runs and 57 RBIs in the first year of a 14-year, $500 million contract. Despite his struggles at the plate, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins stated he remains fully confident that Guerrero will bounce back next season.
