Assistant coach Eric Niesen will lead the program on an interim basis.

Wake Forest has placed head baseball coach Tom Walter on administrative leave effective Oct. 14, according to a university statement provided to Baseball America. The school did not disclose the reason behind the decision. Eric Niesen has stepped in to handle the day-to-day leadership of the program during Walter's absence, supported by Executive Associate Athletic Director Craig Zakrzewski.
Walter has served as Wake Forest's head coach since 2010, guiding the Demon Deacons to the 2023 College World Series. In June 2025, Walter faced criticism and issued an apology after appearing to use a homophobic slur during an NCAA Tournament game.
