Yankees’ Gerrit Cole makes history in win vs. Diamondbacks

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole made MLB history during a 9-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. The 36-year-old earned his 162nd career victory, passing Mike Moore for the most wins by a pitcher selected first overall in the MLB Draft. Cole pitched six innings, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out six batters to improve his season record to 9-9.

The Yankees offense supported Cole with a five-run first inning, featuring RBI contributions from Ben Rice, Amed Rosario, and George Lombard Jr. Rice and Lombard both hit home runs later in the game. With the win, the Yankees improved to an 89-64 record, keeping them within four games of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East division.
