UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has taken responsibility for Gable Steveson immediately leaving the octagon following his knockout loss at UFC 331. Steveson suffered his first professional defeat after being knocked out by Sean Sharaf just 12 seconds into the first round. Rather than waiting for the official decision, Steveson immediately exited the cage, drawing criticism from the crowd.
Jones clarified on social media that he made the decision to send Steveson backstage immediately to ensure his health and safety. Steveson, an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling, was 4-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career prior to the defeat against Sharaf in Los Angeles.
