Justin Gaethje vs Alexander Volkanovski: Dana White reveals what’s holding up superfight

UFC CEO Dana White revealed that a proposed champion versus champion superfight between lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski depends entirely on Gaethje's future plans. Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, White stated he is fully supportive of granting Volkanovski's request for the bout, but the promotion is waiting to see whether Gaethje decides to retire or continue competing following his title victory over Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250.

Volkanovski expressed interest in returning to the 155-pound division following his recent featherweight title defense against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333. If Gaethje decides to fight again rather than retire, the UFC must also consider top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan, which could potentially lead to the title being vacated if the superfight moves forward in 2027.
