Imagine finishing second so many times that you start wondering what it will take to finally get over the line. Christopher Bell had seven runner-up finishes during the regular season, and that frustrating trend has followed him into the Chase.
Christopher Bell expressed shock after finishing second to Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe by 0.029 seconds at the Bank of America 400 in Charlotte. Bell mounted a late charge and attempted a pass on the final lap, but slid into Briscoe in Turn 4 before falling agonizingly short at the checkered flag in the closest Cup Series finish of the season.
Briscoe led 61 of the final 62 laps after his pit crew gained him the lead during a caution on Lap 205. The victory lifted Briscoe to fourth in the championship standings, while Bell sits third, 51 points behind leader Kyle Larson, adding another frustrating runner-up finish to his campaign.
