Key Things to Know

  • Teams are still permitted to inspect rear rotors per normal pre-race procedures on Sunday.
The Story in 60 Seconds

NASCAR announced it will allow Cup Series teams to replace front brake rotors and pads following practice and qualifying at Phoenix Raceway. The procedural adjustment was introduced after multiple brake failures occurred during the previous month's race at World Wide Technology Raceway, which sent several contenders into the wall and triggered safety concerns.

Teams will maintain standard pre-race procedures on Sunday, which include inspecting rear rotors while making adjustments. Crew chiefs, including Kyle Larson's crew chief Cliff Daniels, expressed support for the measure, while Team Penske's Ryan Blaney captured the pole position for the upcoming Freeway Insurance 500.
