The Story in 60 Seconds

Actor Will Ferrell revealed on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" that he and filmmaker Adam McKay conceived "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" out of frustration over Hollywood studio rejections for "Anchorman." Ferrell admitted they sought to capitalize on NASCAR's soaring popularity despite having no prior background in the motorsport. When Fallon asked about his racing knowledge before developing the movie, Ferrell jokingly confessed that he did not even know cars were involved.

Released in August 2006, the comedy went on to earn more than $163 million worldwide and featured real NASCAR figures, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., alongside actors John C. Reilly and Sacha Baron Cohen. Ferrell noted that two decades later, racing and comedy fans still regularly quote character Ricky Bobby's iconic one-liners back to him.
