Rooting for Marcus Smart while he's not on the Boston Celtics anymore is one thing, but it makes the Los Angeles Lakers' decision to let him walk look even dumber. Seriously, why did they do that?

Writer Matt John argues that Boston Celtics fans can take delight in Marcus Smart's strong preseason form with the Houston Rockets, which highlights a questionable offseason decision by the Los Angeles Lakers. Smart rejoined head coach Ime Udoka in Houston on a three-year, $21 million contract after departing Los Angeles, and recently recorded 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists in a preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks.
John criticizes the Lakers' front office for allowing the defensive guard to leave in free agency. He questions their choice to instead allocate backcourt resources to scoring guard Collin Sexton, arguing Smart would have provided much better defensive balance alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
