Derrick White reported encouraging progress for Jayson Tatum ahead of the Boston Celtics' 2026-27 season opener against the Detroit Pistons. White noted that Tatum has regained his confidence and cleared the mental hurdles stemming from an Achilles rupture suffered in May 2025. Tatum enters his tenth NBA season as the central focus of a retooled Boston roster.
Tatum demonstrated strong form in the preseason, scoring 23 and 19 points in his two appearances while earning praise from head coach Joe Mazzulla. The Celtics enter Tuesday's matchup against Detroit with an adjusted lineup featuring new additions Paul George and Mitchell Robinson, while guard Devin Carter is ruled out due to mononucleosis.
