"I think the more we talk about things that aren't involving the 26-27 Celtics, I'm doing a disservice to our team."
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla answered live fan calls during his appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Zolak and Bertrand" show on Thursday. One caller questioned Mazzulla regarding former Celtic Jaylen Brown's recent remarks calling 2025-26 his favorite season, which some interpreted as a dig at Jayson Tatum. Mazzulla defended maintaining an environment where players speak honestly, while noting the team cannot control external media interpretations.
Mazzulla acknowledged Brown's major role in Boston's past success and his personal growth as a coach ahead of an upcoming November 10 matchup against Brown's Philadelphia 76ers. However, Mazzulla emphasized that his primary focus must remain on the current 2026-27 Celtics squad rather than outside distractions.
