Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez announced that rookie Mikel Brown Jr. will not start and will face minutes restrictions against the Charlotte Hornets. Fernandez stated that Brown will play less than 24 minutes to prioritize his long-term health while building him up properly following an ankle injury suffered during training camp. Brown, the No. 6 overall draft pick, appeared in only one preseason game, recording 18 minutes of action.
Brown, who wore an ankle brace during practice, stated he is confident and unconcerned whether he starts or comes off the bench. Meanwhile, Fernandez provided an update on rookie forward Joshua Johnson, confirming the No. 28 pick is dealing with back soreness and has not yet fully rejoined the team.
