The Story in 60 Seconds

Joe Tsai's investment partner and Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment vice chair Ollie Weisberg discussed the business strategy behind owning the Brooklyn Nets in an interview with Barron's. Weisberg explained that their investment was driven by the fixed supply of NBA franchises and the growth of streaming media rights. The Nets' valuation has increased from $3.3 billion in 2019 to an estimated $7.4 billion, while the New York Liberty is valued at over $600 million.

Weisberg emphasized that the ownership group treats the Nets as a long-term family and community asset rather than an asset to flip. The organization is funding over $150 million in renovations at Barclays Center, utilizing capital from selling a minority stake to the Koch family. Outside of basketball, Blue Pool Capital holds investments in the Miami Dolphins and SailGP, while evaluating opportunities in soccer and Formula One.
