As the 2026-27 NBA season inches closer, the upcoming run of Inside the NBA under ESPN could be a farewell tour of sorts. Charles Barkley claims that it will not only be his final season on air, but also that…

Former NBA analyst Chris Webber stated that he believes Charles Barkley will retire from broadcasting following the 2026–27 season. Speaking at the 41st Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner in New York City, Webber noted that Barkley's departure is tied to Inside the NBA host Ernie Johnson's anticipated exit, comparing Barkley's eventual absence to John Madden's retirement from NFL broadcasting.
Conversely, co-panelist Shaquille O'Neal dismissed Barkley's retirement remarks as a marketing tactic for publicity, expressing doubt about the claim. Barkley previously stated on The Bill Simmons Podcast that he and Johnson are a package deal, asserting that the 2026–27 campaign would be his final season on air if Johnson retires.
