DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks waived center Dwight Powell on Monday, the team announced, ending a 12-season run with the franchise two days before the regular-season opener.
The Dallas Mavericks have waived veteran center Dwight Powell, concluding his 12-season tenure with the franchise two days prior to the regular-season opener. Mavericks president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri praised Powell in an official statement, calling him a consummate professional and a tireless worker whose impact reached deep into the Dallas community.
Powell, who was the only player among Dallas's standard contract holders without a fully guaranteed deal, ranks fifth in franchise history with 763 games played. His departure trims the Mavericks' roster to 15 players on standard contracts and two on two-way deals ahead of Wednesday's season opener.
