Former NBA All-Star D'Angelo Russell has agreed to sign with the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association. The CBA announced the move on Wednesday following Russell's release by the Memphis Grizzlies on September 25, 2026. This marks the first time the 30-year-old guard will play professional basketball outside the United States after an 11-year career in the NBA.
Russell, who was selected No. 2 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, played 655 regular-season NBA games across stints with teams including the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. He now joins a Shanghai Sharks roster that recently won its first CBA championship in 25 years and features fellow former NBA player Hassan Whiteside.
